Smile, You're on Candid Camera

Actually no I'm not that sneaky. But when growing up my Dad always taught me that the best type of a snap was the unposed variety. Or basically trying to capture your subject unawares so that they were in a more natural state of mind.
I twas sorting through the 10 odd Gigabytes of photos that have been taken in the past 7 months (aided by a Nikon Coolpix) and remembering some of the moments that they captured. There are some movies in there too which are cute and fun, especially the swimming ones.
But there's one big event missing from them...... The Birth.
WHich brings us round to a particularly important question. Is it better to live the moment or to capture it? Part of me wishes that we had photographs of that special time (or a movie) but the other part outweighs that wishing in that I was actually there and in the moment rather than being preoccupied with taking photos/movies. I suppose we could have had another party do it but we already had so many people in the room (me, my partner, Obs, 2 nurses, Blood collector and Paediatrician).
So what do you think?
Tis better to be there or to take a photo?
