The Easter Bunny has Arrived...

April 3rd 2010 01:25
Tis that odd time of year in thee Catholic calendar where you can eat chocoloate for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and not be considered a total glutton. Of course during the following week you have to deal with that on your own.... *wink wink*.

Anyway, the Easter bunny did not deliver chocolate this year but he obviously took a trip to Chuggington instead and my 2 year old was happy with that. The trains even went for a nap with him yesterday.

We ended up at Fox Studios yesterday where there is, I guess, a much scaled down version of the Easter Show. It's probably a better destination when your kids aren't very big and it's certainly more convenient. There's also the issue that tit's not too crowded (at last years show we simply didn't get to see much because there were such long lines).

I was dumb enough unfortunately to take my Seeing Eye Dog. Can you say "distracted"? There were other dogs, animals, food scattered around on the ground, kids galore and oh, did I mention the people that either wanted to pat him or simply just were not watching where they were going????

This brings me to a dilemma...
How to manage a dog and stay responsible for a child of 2? As much as I love the dog and appreciate his help, especially with dangerous situations such as crossing the road I am left torn between my responsibilities to him and those to my 2 year old (who undoubtedly comes first).

By the end of the afternoon I had very sore eyes and bad eye strain (which I oddly feel mostly in the eye I can't see out of).

I am finding this a little in everyday life though. The juggling of the variety of responsibilities. Having to make sure I take the dog to the toilet and ensuring he has water throughout the day often leaves me little choice other than to leave my son with someone else. This is especially true when we are out at the shops. This makes it extremely difficult sometimes.

Another issue is that the dog walks on my left, therefore if the traffic is on my right and my son needs to walk on my left hand side there is a problem (I always like to ensure there is a maximum of space between the traffic and him).

We did have a good time yesterday though.
The jumping castle got a triple go with Daddy having to come in too despite his fear of them (I fell badly in one when I was about 5 and got my neck stuck between the wall/floor and badly hurt my neck). Chinese for dinner too was yummy and looks like my toddler takes a bit after me as he really goes for the Prawn Crackers and Honey Prawns.....Expensive tastes I know...

Hope you all have a good Easter.

It's all in the communication

Talk to any Psychologist about relationship troubles and they'll always tell you that communication is an essential key element to any relationship.

I tend to agree but

Actually I wouldn't go that far.

We wandered off to the "Big Smoke" (pun intended) yesterday for our son's hearing test. Upon alighting from our vehicle I was assaulted with errrr smoke. You could probably argue it's mostly car fumes but there was an unmistakable and quite prominant smell of tobacco. It followed us all the way to our destination and then again during lunch and on our way back to the car

Smile, You're on Candid Camera

Actually no I'm not that sneaky. But when growing up my Dad always taught me that the best type of a snap was the unposed variety. Or basically trying to capture your subject unawares so that they were in a more natural state of mind.

I twas sorting through the 10 odd Gigabytes of photos that have been taken in the past 7 months (aided by a Nikon Coolpix) and remembering some of the moments that they captured. There are some movies in there too which are cute and fun, especially the swimming ones

Babbling about nothing....

March 8th 2008 06:38
The movie "Meet the Fockers" provides a very good comparison between varying parenting styles. Of cours it's a bit exaggerated as most movies are. For those who haven't seen it, one family is more "Educate the baby all the time" while the other is "Let the kid be a kid". Of course, at the end of the movie it becomes quite clear that both styles are relatively successful (if implemented properly).

One interesting point in particular is about speech and the way you speak to your children. Some people think that babbling incoherently to your baby is good while others think its improtant to talk to your children like adults.

When safety becomes dangerous....

March 4th 2008 11:00
If you read through choice online and are a member you will come across their baby's buyers guide and the things you should and shouldn't buy them.

Some of the items that are suggested that you shouldn't buy are baby walkers (too much mobility too soon) and the NUK Orthadontic Dummies (The mouth guard is too small).

Let's go swimming

March 3rd 2008 11:34
Bubs is preparing for the Beijing Olympics. He's 4 months now so should be ready for the 100m freestyle just in time!

Nah not really. But he certainly enjoys the classes and that's the main thing.

Selection and Choice part 2

March 2nd 2008 02:07
Yesterday I was talking about selection and choice and whether we, as humans, should have access to those choices. This was more specifically about Sex Selection through IVF. But there is also another type of selection and choice offered to the pregnant woman that has been opened by modern technology.

I am of course referring to the ethical can of worms that is opened up when people start talking about genetic screening

Selections and Choice

March 1st 2008 06:25
Modern technology has brought with it many great advances and benifits. Unfortunately some of those also raise ethical issues about whether or not we as humans, actually should have the right to override the natural order of things.

Sex Selection seems to be an increasingly available option during pregnancy these days that technology has given us access to. Particularly those seeking IVF.

Everyone's an expert

February 29th 2008 10:39
Or so it would seem.
Of course the Internet plays host to many "Home Grown" experts whose advice is plastered across the web. Some of which is just blatantly incorrect, invalid or cleverly disguised misinformation (hopefully I won't make a hypocrit of myself and fit myself in that category!!!).
